Our Corporate Social Responsibility Initiatives in Lagos
Cycling for Change
At FTCycleCare, we believe in using the power of cycling to create positive change. Through our CSR initiatives, we're committed to improving lives, promoting sustainable transportation, and building stronger communities across Lagos.
Healthcare Workers Bike Support Program
In partnership with Lagos State Primary Healthcare Board, FTCycleCare provided 25 rugged mountain bikes to community health workers in hard-to-reach areas of Badagry. These health workers previously struggled to reach patients in remote communities due to poor road conditions and lack of transportation. The bikes enable them to conduct home visits, deliver medications, and respond to emergencies more efficiently.
Bike for Education - School Children Initiative
FTCycleCare donated 5 brand new bicycles to underprivileged school children in Ajegunle, Lagos. The initiative aims to reduce the time and stress of commuting to school, allowing children to arrive on time and with more energy for learning. Each child received a properly fitted bicycle, helmet, safety training, and a year's supply of maintenance support. Local schools partnered with us to identify students who walk over 5km daily to attend classes.
Christmas Charity Ride to Children's Hospitals
FTCycleCare members dressed as Santa Claus and rode to three children's hospitals - Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Massey Street Children's Hospital, and Island Maternity Hospital. The group distributed gifts, toys, school supplies, and cycling-themed coloring books to pediatric patients. The ride brought smiles and holiday cheer to children spending Christmas in the hospital.
Senior Citizens Cycling for Health
Program introducing cycling to senior citizens as a low-impact exercise option. FTCycleCare provided tricycles and adult trikes to elderly participants, along with gentle training sessions. The initiative promotes active aging, social connection, and mental wellbeing among Lagos' elderly population.
School Cycling Clubs Establishment
FTCycleCare established cycling clubs in 5 public secondary schools across Lagos. Each school received 10 bicycles, safety gear, and a trained coach. Weekly after-school sessions teach students cycling skills, road safety, teamwork, and the environmental benefits of cycling. Inter-school competitions are planned quarterly.
Women on Wheels - Empowerment Program
A month-long program designed to teach women and young girls how to cycle, breaking cultural barriers and promoting gender equality in sports. The program provided free bicycles, training sessions, and mentorship from female cycling champions. Participants learned not just cycling skills but also gained confidence, built friendships, and discovered a new form of independent transportation.
Bike Maintenance Training for Youth Corps Members
Free bike maintenance workshop for NYSC members serving in Lagos. The training equipped young graduates with practical skills in bicycle repair, creating potential income opportunities. Participants learned tire repair, brake adjustment, gear tuning, and basic frame checks. Graduates received toolkits and certificates.
Environmental Clean-Up & Cycling Day
FTCycleCare organized a community clean-up event along the Lagos coastal bike path, combining environmental consciousness with cycling. Over 150 volunteers, including local cycling club members, students, and residents, cycled to designated areas and collected waste. The event collected over 2 tons of plastic waste, which was properly recycled. The day ended with a community ride and environmental education session.
Cycling Scholarships for Talented Youth
FTCycleCare identified 10 talented young cyclists from low-income backgrounds and provided comprehensive scholarships including: high-performance bicycles, professional coaching, race entry fees, nutrition guidance, and academic support. The program aims to develop Nigeria's next cycling champions regardless of economic background.
Road Safety Campaign for Motorists
Awareness campaign targeting commercial motorists (danfo drivers, okada riders) about sharing the road safely with cyclists. FTCycleCare distributed educational materials at major motor parks in Oshodi, Yaba, and Mile 2. Campaign included stickers, posters, and radio jingles promoting mutual respect between cyclists and motorists.
Community Cycling Safety Workshop
Free cycling safety workshop conducted for over 200 residents of Surulere. The workshop covered road safety rules, proper cycling etiquette, helmet usage, hand signals, and basic bike maintenance. Participants received free safety reflectors, lights, and educational materials. Local traffic officers were invited to speak about sharing the road responsibly.
End of Year Community Party & Bike Giveaway
Annual community celebration bringing together all FTCycleCare CSR beneficiaries, volunteers, and community members. The event featured cycling demonstrations, safety games for children, health screenings, and a raffle where 20 brand new bicycles were given away to community members. Traditional music, food, and cultural performances celebrated Lagos cycling community.
Flood Relief Support for Cyclists
When severe flooding affected parts of Lagos, FTCycleCare mobilized to help affected cyclists. The organization provided emergency bike repairs, temporary replacement bikes, and helped relocate bicycles to safer areas. Team members also assisted in general flood relief efforts in affected communities.
Blood Donation Drive & Cycling Event
Annual blood donation drive organized in partnership with Lagos State Blood Transfusion Service. Cyclists were encouraged to donate blood before a community ride. The event collected over 100 units of blood, helping to address shortages in Lagos hospitals. Donors received free cycling jerseys and health check-ups.
Bicycle Donation to Orphanages
FTCycleCare visited three orphanages across Lagos - Home of Hope, Little Saints Orphanage, and Mercy Children's Home - donating 30 bicycles to children aged 8-16.
